Saline VS Silicone Breast Implants
Over the past ten years there have been countless studies and debts over saline vs. silicone breast implants by surgeons. When it comes right down to it, every breast plastic surgeon has his or her favourite. It is also a question of safety vs. aesthetics. Saline may be safer however silicone has a more natural look and feel as a cohesive gel breast implants.
Saline Implants:
Breast implants filled with a saline solution are a newer form of implant and come with some advantages over their silicone counterparts, like the ability to inflate or deflate the implant while in the breast without the need for revision surgery, allowing for complete client satisfaction before after breast implants.
When you select an implant filled with saline you have two choices. The first is an implant that comes in a pre selected shape and size. The second implant comes with a type of valve (that is not noticeable, nor does it effect the look in anyway) that gives the plastic surgeon the ability to inflate the implant while the patient is conscience, which means you can get the size that you are looking for. The other great thing about the valve is if at some point you want bigger or smaller breasts you can have them adjusted in a matter of minutes.
Risks involved with saline implants are much lower than those of silicon implants. However there are recorded cases where mould and other forms of bacteria grow and eat away at the implant. If the implant should rupture or leak the bacteria is released directly into the body. This has been known to cause respiratory problems. Ask your plastic breast surgeon for more info.
Silicone Breast Implants:
The shell (outer layer) of silicone breast implants are made of a rubberized silicone. The implants are made and pre filled to a specific desired size. The implants come in a variety of textures, smoothness, outer shell (harder, softer, thickness etc.) and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Silicone implants unlike their saline counterparts are non adjustable.
Recently Silicone implants have been re approved in the USA stating: that there isnt enough definitive evidence that links silicone breast implants to breast cancers and neurological disorders. Never the less other research from around the world lists the following risks involved with having silicone implants:
As if the potential risks werent bad enough, after you have the implants, you must go for an MRI every year to see if there is a leak or rupture in the implants. With saline implants a leak is detect right away (as the breast deflates and the person can feel it), with silicone if it leaks or ruptures the silicone actually takes the shape around the breast tissue making it near to impossible to notice a change.
Every year owners of silicone breast must pay a few thousand to have an MRI to ensure there are no leaks or ruptures to the breast. Ruptures and leaks are nearly impossible to detect otherwise because the silicone molds the breast tissue around the implant, all the while seeping into the blood and tissue.
Added risks include: After having silicone breast implants it has been shown that if the women has children and implant has leaked, the child may be severely affected by the toxins in the implant. Unfortunately a child may still be adversely affect even after the breast plastic implants surgeon removes the implants prior to conception as platinum and other toxins are not expelled from the body.
The same high level toxins contained in a womens body after even a small rupture in silicon breast implants can be found in children, both before and after the implants have been removed.
